Google has expanded its global media hegemony into music, partnering with Lala, MySpace, and a host of related services to offer music-specific search content. With the new features, Google searches for artists, lyrics, and song titles (in theory) generate a new section at the top of the search results page. Songs can be streamed from Lala, with links to iLike, Pandora, Rhapsody, and iMeem provided for further music exploration. The search function is a little imperfect right now--searching for "Moroder" produced no music results, whereas "Giorgio Moroder" offered Lala streams and music links. MySpace integration is also incomplete--searching for French Horn Rebellion's "Up All Night" produced no music results.
In celebration of the partnership/return to semi-relevancy, MySpace is now offering exclusive music from the following Murderers' Row of artists:
Lady Gaga
Kings of Leon
Green Day
OneRepublic
Norah Jones
The Fray
Snoop Dog
Paramore
Tim McGraw
Bon Jovi
Linkin Park
Dead By Sunrise
Mashable is offering its predictions--iTunes, watch out!
