Glee And The Rolling Stones Battle For Billboard #1
The Glee: Showstoppers soundtrack currently sits atop Billboard's top 200 albums where it's been for the past four weeks. However, the everyone's favorite televised musical will now have to compete with The Rollings Stones' highly publicized Exile on Mainstreet re-issue that hit stores on Tuesday.
Experts think The Stones may surpass the Glee cast's third full-length soundtrack as Exile is considered by many to be the band's greatest album, and the re-issue is long overdue. Seriously, before this it was nearly impossible to find a decently maintained copy of it on vinyl.
The re-issue finds its target audiences among record enthusiasts, Stones completists and older people, quite a different group people than Glee normally attracts. It would be easy to make some grandiose statment like, "C'mon, America! Show us you still know good music!" However, that stance is a bit misguided, as you've surely noticed the amount of attention that the media has devoted to the Exile re-issue this past week.
This one's all about marketing, folks.
