Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis is defending the festival’s decision to give a headlining slot to Jay-Z. Writing in The Independent, Eavis said that that festival was “delighted” to have “greatest living hip-hop artist on at Glastonbury.” Eavis also denied that Jay-Z, who is sharing headlining duties with The Verve and Kings of Leon, was asked to perform to promote the festival to a new audience: “That is not the case. It is much simpler than that: we respect Jay-Z as an amazing artist and so, obviously, we want to see him at the festival.” Though Eavis has settled this question, there are a couple remaining. Does Eavis consider Biggie or Tupac the greatest act of all time? And how could somebody from England so blatantly sell out Slick Rick in favor of Jay-Z? All of these storylines will wrap up at the Glastonbury Festival, which takes place June 27th to June 29th. Tickets are available via the Glastonbury website. [Gigwise]
