Girls’ Singer Life Story Checks Out; Band Adds Tour Dates

Sure, Christopher Owens’s life story sounds like a bit much, what with the being raised in a cult, and having a millionaire savior and ending up in one of the most critically hailed and widely embraced bands of the year. Ever the suspicious type, The Village Voice decided to look into the Girls lead singer’s claims and the verdict is that Owens is likely telling the truth. The paper found bits of scattered proof supporting Owens’s account of his fantastic, out-there upbringing:

“At the very least, Owens’s story has been consistent over time. Photographs of Owens as a child show him overseas with his mother. His benefactor, Marsh, happily affirms his relationship with the now-30-year-old musician. He is listed as an ex-Family member on the site xfamily.orgIt’s not full verification, but the reporting suggests that Owens has indeed lived a life punctuated by both terribly unfortunate events and outsized good luck.”

And with that settled, we can all stop wondering about biographies and start thinking about tour dates. The band has added a few appearances to its upcoming roster of shows — and this is the first time they hit the road as headliners. For more, see below, per Pitchfork:
