Following news that Boys Meets World spin-off Girl Meets World cast Rowan Blanchard as its precocious lead, comes even better news: the very important role of "Shawn Hunter Type" has been filled! In the original series, Shawn (Rider Strong) was a much needed contrast to Cory's normal, middle-class upbringings; he lived in a trailer, had serious daddy issues, peer-pressured Cory into doing naughty things, sported a wicked middle part and displayed a preference for oversized patterned vests. He also one time tried to raise a pig he randomly found (that happens), which helped us understand we were in the company of someone with a good heart who, incidentally, was a little f'ed in the head.
So that brings us to Maya Fox (played by 13-year-old Sabrina Carpenter). Maya, as described by the show's creators
is an only child and has never known her father, which makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her. She is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting the people in her sphere. A little bit edgy, she is as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her.
Shawn Hunter to a T. And it doesn't stop there: according to creator Michael Jacobs, there's a possibility the real Shawn will return to the show, despite Rider Strong's sad blog dispelling rumors of his involvement. "Whoever wants to be part of this show will be," Jacobs said, adding "Disney is taking great stock in articles that say 'these are the five things we demand from Girls Meets World.'" Well, in that case, we're gunning for Joey "The Rat" Epstein to make an appearance as a moderately successful member of an indie rock band.
