Gallery Love For Radiohead's "Sixth Man"

Via: Guardian Unlimited
Stanley Donwood (née Dan Rickwood), aka Thom Yorke's art-school friend/collaborator/once-rumored alter ego, has a show at Barcelona's Iguapop Gallery opening this week. Donwood is Radiohead's resident cover artist, having designed the band's records since 1994's My Iron Lung EP, and his Cal Ripken Jr.-like collaborative efforts have earned him the highly coveted title of "Sixth Man" of Radiohead. We can't figure out if that qualifies him for the House of Lords, but we can get behind the fact that the exhibition gives further credence to the idea of record covers as quote-unquote legitimate art. Most recently, Mr. Donwood was responsible for the frontispiece of Tom Yorke's solo debut, The Eraser.
The exhibition, optimistically titled "Dead Children Playing," highlights Donwood's work with the band, and features the art for Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail To The Thief, among others. For more insight/info, check out the artist's website, Slowly Downward, a well-maintained collection of his art and unsurprisingly cryptic fiction.
