The DIY-operated FYF Fest, a six-year-young event with its roots in the grass and green intentions, returns this year on September 5. Dan Deacon, WAVVES, No Age, the Thermals and Dillinger Escape Plane are on the line up. The festival-sponsored campaign Save Our State Parks addresses budget cut threats to California parks.
Previously dubbed the F Yeah Fest, this event was founded in 2004 by an ambitious 18-year-old, Sean Carlson, who still works out of his bedroom in his father’s house. He toured the festival last year with Matt & Kim, Israeli punk band Monotonix, Deathset and Team Robospierre. They traveled on a biodiesel school bus named Blue Bird.
Tickets for the FYF Fest are $20. Some of the proceeds go to Homeboy Industries and Harvest for Hope Foundation for Migrant Workers, organizations that help underprivelaged workers. Prefix photographer Rachel Carr will be on-site to shoot the event.
