The Futureheads have completed work on their third album, reports NME. The follow-up to 2006'''s News and Tributes, the LP was recorded in Spain and produced by Youth (Smashing Pumpkins).
In a recently released statement, guitarist Ross Millard had the following to say about the band'''s current direction: "Now that we're out of all major label clutches, we can call the shots on what we do, and when and where we do it, a lot more - so keep your ears to the ground and I'll give you a shout back when we've got other important news to break."
It will be interesting to see where The Futureheads go with this one. While arguably just as strong as their self-titled debut, News and Tributes seemed to suffer from the same sort of ''"new new-wave backlash''" that stalled the ascent of a lot of their contemporaries (Franz Ferdinand most immediately comes to mind). Let's hope they stay the course: A world without post-punk Kate Bush covers would be a scary one indeed.
