Friends Announce Debut Album Details, Streaming new Song: "Mind Control"

Much-hyped Brooklyn outfit Friends have announced details of their debut album, and are streaming a track from it titled “Mind Control.” The band enjoyed a quick rise to semi-fame with the release of “I’m His Girl” last year, and earlier in 2012 we featured them in our Prefix Artist to Watch feature.

Fat Possum will release that debut album, titled Manifest!, on June 5, which will contain 12 tracks engineered by Daniel Schlett at Strange Weather studio in Brooklyn. No track listing is available at present, but the fact that Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence + the Machine, Cee-Lo)  mixed "Mind Control" means big things are expected.

That new song just debuted on Zane Lowe’s show in the U.K., and it’s another street-smart mix of old school New York sounds (just a guess, but these guys must really love Tom Tom Club) all executed with a little spit and polish to give it a contemporary sheen. This is the sound of a band that is positively eager to leave the indie ghetto from which they emerged. Check it out below.
