Free Yr Radio returning to SXSW

Last year saw the launch of the Free Yr Radio campaign, which brought together Toyota and Urban Outfitters to help raise money for independent radio stations in the U.S. Urban Outfitters hosted special in-store concerts by the likes of Sonic Youth, Klaxons, and others, while Toyota gave away its Yaris vehicles as part of fundraising drives for stations. Free Yr Radio will take place again this year, kicking things off in Austin at South by Southwest. A launch party will go down March 12 at La Zona Rosa, co-hosted by Austin independent radio station KVRX. Simian Mobile Disco will headline, with support from Yeasayer and Times New Viking. There will also be a Free Yr Radio Broadcast Corner, where Minnesota-based station the Current will air live sets by the likes of the Raveonettes, DeVotchKa, Dizzee Rascal, She & Him, Carbon/Silicon, Billy Bragg, and others.

After SXSW, Free Yr Radio will start putting on another round of Urban Outfitters in-stores across the country, from April through October. Details on cities and bands will be announced towards the end of March.
