Nine Inch Nails didn’t have the happiest ending to 2008, with Trent Reznor declaring we had likely seen the “final tour for NIN on this scale.” He has reneged on that announcement in 2009, with an upcoming arena tour with Jane’s Addiction among the most anticipated live events of the year. Reznor has also repositioned himself as a technological renaissance man, with tweets, torrents, spoof albums, and other tech savvy delights spewing forth from his computer keyboard on a daily basis. The Nine Inch Nails iPhone app has been anticipated for a while, and now it’s here and free to download from the iTunes store.
The app includes streaming music, images, videos and a host of other features, including the chance to converse with other fans of the band via messaging and forum software. It directly ties in with the official Nine Inch Nails website, and is likely to be used heavily when the band hits the road this year. The sight of people tapping away on their phones at shows won’t please everyone, although it may be slightly less annoying than the sea of digital cameras that currently greets bands across the globe.
