Remove an "o" from Free Blood to get Free Blod, which isn't far from blog, a place where this Brooklyn duo drummed up attention for their recent single, "Never Hear Surf Music Again." They will be following it up with their first full-length -- being prepped for a November 4 launch on Rong/DFA -- which will include compile six of the band's singles and five remixes.

Consisting of former !!! member John Pugh and fashion designer Madeline Davies, Free Blood pay lip service to Manhattan's "club scene" (your guess is as good as mine), but their posturing is pure BK -- beats that are funky and housey without straying far from rock, subtle but ambitious instrumentation, and Davies' super-flat, nasal delivery. DFA's been on a winning streak lately, and judging by the recently released "Royal Family" video, The Singles might just continue the trend.
