Last night in Charlottesvile, Va., Joanna Newsom was joined on stage by her labelmate and boyfriend Andy Samberg's co-worker, Fred Armisen. Armisen, along with Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav, opened the show as his drum-master alter-ego, Jens Hannemann (video below), who released an instructional drumming video on Drag City in 2007. He later joined the harpist for "Good Intentions Paving Company" from her new album, Have One On Me (which is really, really good), also out on Drag City. Armisen is wearing an olive hoodie in the above video, and he holds his own alongside the touring drummer.
Newsom, fresh from a visit to the White House on Tuesday, is currently touring through the Southeast and Midwest before heading overseas. Full tour dates are here. Fred Armisen/Jens Hannemann will be joining the trip for the next two nights: tonight in Durham, N.C., and on Friday in Atlanta.
