Freaky dolls offer antidote to Barbies of Priscilla and the King

The official Barbie rendition of Elvis and Priscilla has been unveiled, and the dolls offer a decidedly wholesome depiction of the King and his bride on their wedding day. Over a hundred dedicated fans showed up for the occasion, which was held as a part of the annual pilgrimage to Graceland that marks Elvis’s August 16 death.

For those who prefer Elvis in his fried banana sandwich, karate, and jumpsuit days, however, the folks at Gigwise have prepared a slightly more eclectic list of musicians rendered in doll form. Though some of the dolls, including the full Osbourne family and two separate renderings of Eminem, reek of hubris, others capture their subject in less glamorous circumstances. The highlights of the collection (okay, other than the Nick and Jessica Cabbage Patch dolls) are the ‘Hard Living’ dolls made by Love From Hetty and Dave. The dolls, which resemble demented Ugly Dolls, depict Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, and Britney Spears in all their altered glory. [NME] and [Gigwise]
