Who says they don't make supergroup's like they used to? Try telling that to Zincs frontman James Elkington and Janet Beveridge Bean of Freakwater/Eleventh Dream Day fame, who have banded together under the rather whimsical-sounding banner of The Horse's Ha. Together with cellist Frank Lonberg-Holm, the go-to string-scraper for countless Chicago indie acts, L'Altra drummer Charles Rumback, and former Mark Eitzel bassist Nick Macri, Beveridge and Bean explore a low-key, acoustic sound that's both organic and elegant, with Elkington's deep croon and Bean's gentle quaver gliding along together in a way that seems likely to engender descriptions like "the Johnny and June (or maybe John and Exene) of indie art-folk." The band's debut album, Of the Cathmawr Yards (it's a Dylan Thomas reference, kids), is set to be released through the Hidden Agenda label on June 9.
