It’s been a while, but we’re about to get reacquainted with the Franz Ferdinand sound once again as the group gets ready to release its third album. That record bears a title with more than a little theatrical élan (Tonight: Franz Ferdinand) and is set to hit stores on January 26, 2009.
The album was previewed at a few Brooklyn shows last month, and received an ecstatic response from fans. The first taster from the album, titled “Ulysses,” is set for release just a week before the record drops. But in an intriguing move, the band has made some remix stems of the track available on the popular Beatport website. The Beatport stems allow fans to remix the track before actually hearing what the finished version sounds like.
Talking about the remixes, Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos says they “want to be surprised by the geniuses out there that no one has heard of yet.” Remixers can enter their version of the song into a contest, which will snag the winner a digital download of Tonight: Franz Ferdinand on its release in January. They will also receive 500 Euros and have their version of “Ulysses” released by Domino.
