The ongoing saga of the third Franz Ferdinand album, which the band has been working on since late 2007, is set to finally end. The group played a low key show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn last night, and revealed that the album is to be called Tonight.
Frontman Alex Kapranos and drummer Paul Thomson seem a little unsure about the title when they reveal it in this clip from Spin’s website, but explain that "it’s a nighttime record. All the songs are either set at night or have a feeling of the night.” The band played six new songs at the show, which will presumably feature on the record.
“I can picture a marquee outside a theatre saying 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand',” Kapranos told NME, somewhat dramatically. “There's a sense of anticipation. It's music for the dancefloor, your bedroom as you psyche yourself up to go out, a stranger's bedsit coming down an hour before dawn.” Tonight is produced by Dan Carey, who previously worked with Hot Chip and Lily Allen.
