Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) won’t have to face a slow climb up the featherweight ladder, as the UFC is granting him an immediate title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 153 on Oct. 13 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Edgar replaced Erik Koch, who was forced out of the bout with Aldo due to a knee injury suffered in training camp.
“Obviously, we’ve had a rough couple weeks here at the UFC, and then sure enough, I walk into work today and Erik Koch is hurt,” UFC President Dana White said. “But Frankie Edgar, being the stud and the warrior that he is, steps up and accepts this fight.”
Edgar looks to bounce back from two straight losses to Benson Henderson, while Aldo hopes to extend his win streak to 15.
