MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported on Aug. 21 that Frankie Edgar will be moving down to the UFC's featherweight division and plans to fight before the end of the year.
Helwani (@arielhelwani) tweeted "As reported on @ufctonight, @frankieedgar has officially decided to move to 145 pounds. He hopes to debut before the end of the year. Opponent TBD."
Edgar's recent loss to Benson Henderson put him at a crossroads in his fighting career, as back-to-back losses to the lightweight champ essentially sealed his fate in the 155-pound ranks.
Moving down to the featherweight division is undoubtedly Edgar's best chance at another title shot.
While his first opponent in the 145-pound division has yet to be determined, there is a distinct possibility that he'll take on the the winner of Jose Aldo-Erik Koch, which is slated for Oct. 13.
