FOX News Ladies Say Lady Gaga Is "Poison For The Minds Of Our Kids"

Look, I really am not a fan of Lady Gaga. If you came up to me on the street and said, "Andrew, are you a fan of Lady Gaga?," I would say, "No. No I am not." But I most certainly know that she is not "poison for the mind of our kids" and that her videos don't lead men to go rape little girls, which is pretty fucking nuts to claim about her video of "Telephone." But that's what this fucking nuts lady said on FOX News yesterday, claiming that the pervert who will rape you and/or your daughter is beating off to Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video right now, just cranking it so hard to this video of Lady GaGa in a woman's prison from Waterworld, practicing his rape techniques. She also claims that Lady GaGa is poison to the minds of our kids, which is an insult to real poisons, since those are actually threatening/sinister. Unlike Lady Gaga.

This is kind of like the whole does rap music make people murder each other/ Insane Clown Posse make people hack people with hatchets debate that idiots on cable news channels (mostly FOX) get into all the time that never makes real sense when you think about it. Yes, the "art" may be controversial, but there are plenty of idiots who murder people in the name of the Bible and the Care Bears, and we don't go around calling those things "poison to our kids minds."

We also don't get on TV with a self-satisfied smirk as we claim that child molesters are beating one out to a very bad music video. We should be talking about how almost all of sexual molestations of children are done by a family member, and not how there's a music video with a lady in a thong that perverts will use as inspiration to rape your kid. That would be crazy. [Real Talk NY]

I agree with everything you just wrote for once. Breakthrough!

Well, I disagree with your comment.

Ha Ha Ha, this from the station that pays/endorses/backs Glen Beck. FOX is a right wing lying joke

Well, I'm a Lady Gaga fan and am glad to see your view on the Fox interview. It's not just Lady Gaga who is being threatened here. These nuts would like to decide what we watch, wear or do. It's not just the social conservatives. There are plenty of liberals who want to force their green and healthy lifestyles on us. John Waters has said that liberal censors be more scary to deal with than the usual social conservative. (He was referring to liberals who determine movie ratings and gave his film an NC-17). The great bulk of Americans just want to be left alone by their government. Thanks again.

It's simple, man: "They" did "surveys," and "something like 85%" are involved in pornography. No further evidence needed.

It appears as though Fox made a typo in the title bar: It seems like Sandy Rios is president of the "Culture WARS Campaign," not "The Culture Campaign."

I don't feel for her on this one. Gaga's not stupid. The Telephone video was destined (dare I say, created?) for this kind of attention. It's a stream of brazenly controversial imagery interspersed with shameless product placement. Everybody knows that controversy goes a long way in selling records and tickets. Anything parents object to gains instant cool points. She's obviously reached the "Like a Prayer" section in her Madonna career studies. Outrage-baiting for free press is one of the older tricks in the book.

I see the world is back to "normal." Another woman singer gets slammed for nothing, and the god-like Tiger Woods gets re-sainted.

Tiger's got talent.

Well I agree, and Lady Gaga is an art monster! I love her music videos and style. Yes I'm a fan of her. But she has that creepy side of her which I see on her videos but so what I don't mind it because it's not the same music and the same boring videos that I see all day on tv. The musicians just copy each other. But Lady Gaga is original I must say. And this video is something that you don't see often. But that doesn't mean that it's bad to watch or it will poison our kid's mind. That stupid from side of a very smart people! I like that video, but I'm not going to kill my boyfriend or get naked and abuse people because of it. So get over it! People will still listen to her and still watch her videos and all that! Because she is a masterpiece and one of a kind.

NY style

if you think lady gaga doesn't have talent you obviously haven't seen her actually sing and play an instrument.

Hating on Fox News is as played out as mentioning that Lady Gaga may or may not have a dick.

Ha. Who's done more damage?

I don't particularly like the Telephone video, but if Fox News has a problem with you it means you're doing something right.

This is a win for everyone really isn't it? Fox News gets to generate more faux controversy, thereby generating publicity for themselves, and Gaga's reputation is maintained and upheld just where she wants it to be. The ensuing debate is irrelevant to both parties, they're probably too busy high-fiving each other as we speak.

Also, Lady Gaga doesn't pretend to have a penis in this video or cut one off, and Madonna does go on a killing spree in the video for "What It Feels Like for a Girl," which is a pretty good song.

People sure do love to talk about Lady Gaga!

Nick, you can't seem to get the image of people high-fiving each other out of your head today.

Did you guys see the Daily Show the other night, when Wyatt Cenac did the segment comparing politics to professional wrestling? They put Nick's point quite nicely:

Cenac: "Jon, here's your problem: You think politicians want to win their arguments, when all they really want to do is keep having them. They know arguments are interesting. They energize voters. They keep the money flowing in."

Jon: "You're telling me that their interest is in conflict, not in resolution."

Cenac: "Yes. Jon, do you watch professional wrestling?"

I think the same thing applies here. But regardless of whether it's pro wrestling on a different platform or if it's played-out or if it's just another pop star pulling the levers of the buzz machine, the inconsistency of someone (or some network, tacitly) advocating for censorship one moment and then screaming "Don't tread on me!" the next still gets under my skin. (I admit that I'm making an assumption here; I'm not familiar with Sandy Rios's stances beyond her opinion of Lady Gaga's video. And I do think Megyn Kelly generally challenges Rios in some of the right places throughout this segment.)

/site_media/uploads/images/users/brandon/216_browser_clut.gif brandon

@Brandon. Heh! I think I'm picturing a lot of high-fiving in an attempt to block out the terrible news about Alex Chilton.

The product placement is really hilarious in this video. And I think, intentionally.

Wait, that came out all wrong.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/Thumbu/tumblr_kxam1bj7qq1qa1cnpjpg.jpg Thumbu

There have always been pop divas in rock history, many of them just as self-manufactured (which is at least better than being manufacured by an abusive male A & R guy).

Britney Spears just basically ruined a generation of music fans from trusting that role. Lady Gaga is one of the more interesting musical figures to emerge from that role in quite some time. I still like Lily Allen and Peaches more, but it could be a lot worse than Gaga.

Of course, the Bible Belt still hasn't gotten over Black Sabbath for the most part.

Lady Gaga is a weirdo... in the best possible sense. When I first heard/saw the Bad Romance video, I thought "OK: she's finally pushed this particular aesthetic further than the masses will be willing to take it". Boy was I wrong. The Telephone video goes even further... for better or worse. Personally, I find it harder to sit through than David Caruso's Hamlet-- yet people seem to love it. BTW, if you like Gaga, but don't think she's POP enough, check out Alphabeat's Telephone/Bad Romance mashup/cover. It's pretty awwsomm.

Greg Ingber

"beyonce and lady gaga! gay lesbian lovers! it's disgusting." hahaha i'd say not disgusting.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/Jennacide/jjpg.jpg jennacide

It wasnt the "Fox News Lady" making the comments. It was here guest. Its easy to "make it up as you go along"

Tim K

I like how they describe this video as "shocking," "disgusting," "poison to the minds of children," etc... while showing half of it on their own channel. Clearly it isn't brain poison if it's on Faux News and they stick a censor blur over Gaga's ass.

Allison

I like this article. I love Lady Gaga, but it's nice to see someone who doesn't care for her music but doesn't have to hate her at the same time. A lot of people think if you don't like someone, then it automatically means you hate them and that you make fun of them, and I don't see that in your article which is very refreshing. Great job for being different! And to Fox, there are hundreds of other things out there which are way worse for younger kids that they face directly such as peer pressure, bullying, harassment, abuse, illness, etc.
