Of Montreal, Blitzen Trapper, and more do it "For the Kids"

The young 'uns are always going to be where it's at. Hook the next generation of consumers in while they're still gullible, right? Not that the impetus behind the third in the "For the Kids" series is that callow. No, there's actually good vibes behind this project, as it's done to raise money for VH1's Save the Music Foundation. And there's some good music behind numero tres as well. Of Montreal (pictured), Great Lake Swimmers, Blitzen Trapper, Mates of State, MC Lars, Hem, and Rosie Thomas and Damien Jurado. That last pair strikes me as an odd choice for a kiddy comp; I remember the version of "Wages of Sin" they put in on that Springsteen tribute album some years back was hella haunting. Not exactly child's play. But I'm sure Thomas and Jurado will lighten things up for this occasion.
Other artists who show up on the album aren't as indie-interesting. Those would be Barenaked Ladies, Moby, and O.A.R. Head on after the jump for the full tracklist, and get to guessing about what exactly Over the Rhine's "The Poopsmith Song" is all about.
