The Flaming Lips have just put out a live video for their ethereal stunner “There Should Be Unicorns.” Shot during the group’s There Should Be Unicorns tour, the footage finds the band at their most bombastic.
It features frontman Wayne Coyne emerge onto the stage atop a mechanical unicorn, with some serious colours sprouting out of every crevice. Neon lights, bouncing balls, rainbow-colored lasers and more help to send this performance into outer space.
It follows the recent announcement that their Record Store Day 2017 LP will be getting a worldwide vinyl release. Entitled Onboard the International Space Station Concert for Peace, the universal release date for the record is June 16.
Featuring seven live versions of tracks from their 2017 LP Oczy Mlody, The special release is cited as being a live fictional performance of The Flaming Lips playing on the International Space Station. For those who can’t wait for the vinyl release, the group are streaming the LP on Spotify and Apple, as well as being available on CD.
The Oklahoma brain-melters put out their fourteenth full-length studio album Oczy Mlody in January of this year, releasing five singles in support of the release. It debuted at number 62 on the Billboard 200, as well as coming in on the UK Album Charts at number 38.
Group spearhead Wayne Coyne recently hit headlines for his friendship with singer Miley Cyrus, teaming up with the pop star for her 2015 project Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, as well as including the performer on the latest Flaming Lips LP for the track “We a Family.”
The Flaming Lips are scheduled to tour around Europe throughout the summer, before returning return to the U.S. on September 17 for their show in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The tour is expected to wrap up in Phoenix, Arizona on October 5.
