Financial crisis discussed at Hip-Hop Summit

At this weekend’s Hip-Hop summit hip-hop stars like Ludacris, Yung Joc, D. Woods of Danity Kane, and Russell Simmons discussed the housing collapse that has led to the foreclosure of thousand of people’s homes. The theme of the talk was “Urging People to ‘Get Your Money Right!’”

Simmons believes now is the best time to buy a home because the property will eventually appreciate.

"There are opportunities out there, but people just don't know about it," Simmons said. "With financial stability, it's a great time to buy when it's low. It'll pick back up in the long run."

Participants came away with an 86-page booklet, half in English and half in Spanish, stressing the importance of home ownership, a solid credit score and other vital steps for first time home buyers.

I’m not sure if I’d trust Russell Simmons to give me financial advice, considering he could lose millions and still be fine. But at least he’s talking about the crisis in real terms instead of just urging everyone not to panic while giving banks free reign over tax payers' money. [LA Times]

That’s my financial crisis rant for the day. I leave you with this:
