The folks over at Filter Magazine -- in collaboration with Fuel TV -- are exceeding the publication's motto of "Good music will prevail" with the announcement of the first annual Swerve Festival, a celebration of music, film, sports, and art that will be taking place in LA's Barnsdall Art Park on September 28-30. The line-up for the inaugural weekend includes Black Angels, Oh No! Oh My!, Bonde Do Role, and Foreign Born, while many celebrated visual artists and anticipated films -- including Anton Corbijn's Ian Curtis biopic Control and Doug Pray's Surfwise -- are also confirmed to further enliven the impressive roster of various artistic undertakings. For the budding/wannabe artist, do-it-yourself design labs will be providing visitors with sessions in filmmaking and silk-screening, as well as a rare glimpse into Paul Schmitt's CreateAskate, a non-profit national educational program that teaches kids (and adults!) how to create their own skateboard decks. This spotlight on the West Coast's impressive creative culture is definitely not something to be missed.
