Fiery Furnaces Try to Explain Radiohead Comment, End Up Not Saying Much at All

The Fiery Furnaces' Matthew Friedberger seriously needs to get reacquainted with the phrase "If you haven't anything nice to say, don't say it at all." After confusing the subject of Radiohead's newest single "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)" in an interview with Spinner, (he thought the song was about experimental composer Harry Partch instead of the deceased WW I vet), Friedberger went on to sputter incoherently his many many ruminations concerning Radiohead…which interestingly enough don't aspire to much at all.

After correcting his Radiohead hiccup in Spinner, Friedberger said something like "How's the song? Is it 48 notes to the octave? What does it have to do with Harry Patch? Oh, my wife says I am being very rude. She doesn't like me insulting Radiohead. She's afraid they will send their lackeys through the computer to sabotage us. But they needn't worry -- we are a band that sabotages ourselves."

OK! We get it, you don't care much for Radiohead. Do we really need to keep talking about this? Apparently, we do. In an interview with Vish Khanna, Friedberger continues to act ambivalent and nonplussed. When asked about their "feud," Friedburger says of Radiohead "I don't have any time for them. There's a lot of music."

Oh, and that's not all. "...Personally, just between you and me. I mean I don’t have any regard for (Radiohead), positive or negative. Which, I guess is negative," finishes Friedberger.
