Fest mania: music to be made in Pasadena

Pasadena is a suburb of Los Angeles more known for its old money families, striking mountain vistas, and annual Rose Parade than for rocking out. The only band I can think of that's ever come out of Pasadena is Ozma, which isn't saying much. But on June 21, the city will transform into a live music mecca. That's the day Make Music Pasadena will be held. (Just so happens the date is also World Music Day, and the Summer Solstice, for those keeping score.) Playing the streets, parks, building lobbies, and other odd places of Pasadena will be acts including the Raveonettes, Dengue Fever, Kinky, Autolux, the Little Ones, Division Day, Jesca Hoop, and Everest. So how much will it cost to catch all that music? Absolutely nothing. All shows will be free and open to the public. For more information, head to the fest's website.

The most notable band to form in Pasadena was definitely Van Halen.

I'll definitely be checking this out. I remember Morrissey played three nights in a row in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, and I was like, "what?" So confused. In classic Pasadena fashion, tickets were way too expensive. This sounds great.

I like Ozma! Certainly preferable to Weezer these days. Albert Einstein and Bobby Fischer (before he moved to Manila, and then Reykjavik, of course) were also Pasadenans, and are probably bigger rock stars than even Van Halen.

I always kind of assumed autolux was from pasadena because of how often they played at the glass house.

Anyways a friend of mine wrote a review of that autolux set. show him some love. www.stereocache.wordpress.com

I'd feel guilty about how shameless this is but I don't think Prefix is going to post about it.

gezer, the Glass House is in Pomona, not Pasadena. Maybe you're confusing the two cities? Or you could be confusing the Glass House with the Ice House, a comedy club in Pasadena. I wouldn't normally be so particular but I lived around Pasadena for fifteen years.
