FCC to require airtime for indies?

[Hollywood Reporter via Idolator]
FCC commissioners reportedly are considering a staff proposal that would require radio stations to set aside airtime for independently produced music.
It's not altogether clear right now what would qualify as "independent music" under this proposal or if there would be restrictions on when the radio stations could play the music in question (i.e., whether they would be allowed to just dump an "indie hour" from 4 to 5 a.m. everyday).
This proposal is part of a package that seeks to put an end to the ongoing investigation into payola allegations aimed at major radio broadcasters. If accepted, the deal would also require the radio groups to agree to a code of conduct and engage in an education program about payola.
Will this proposal make any real difference if it's passed? Will major labels continue to find ways to dominate the airwaves? Let us know what you think.

Wow...the government controlling another aspect of our lives. I can't wait! The FCC has yet another moronic idea (what a shock!), and this time it's forcing music upon the masses. Wait a second. Some form of government making choices for its own people....I believe there is a term for that. Oh yeah, it's called communism. To hell with the FCC and all its dumbfuckery.

i hope that by indie they don't mean "indie rock" but "independent music" in general. it's nice if they decide to force the obbeying "democratic" masses of the united states some type of different shit.in the meantime, i have to keep an eye on my third world "democracy", since it's at the brink of closing the only door for independent music in our airwaves due to a case of free world-conservaturism/authoritarism.take much care of yourself
