Fat Possum Re-Releases Album You Have Seen at Urban Outfitters But Never Listened To
It’s not often newsworthy to post 30-year-old T. Rex videos. Always awesome, but hardly ever newsworthy, so we’re seizing on Fat Possum’s re-issue of 1972’s The Slider to throw upthis video of Marc Bolan and company performing “Metal Guru,” the lead track from that same album. The Slider, to be re-released next week, is the first in a planned series of T. Rex re-issues from Fat Possum.
It’s kind of awesome to watch the band writhe around in the above vid, all floppy afros and un-telegenic (a.k.a. “real”) expressions, suppressing giggles as they lip-sync their hit in front of a bunch of fresh-faced kids from Central Casting. And the direction! The guys in the control booth here are obviously 1) just incredibly high and 2) trying desperately to pretend they’re still making experimental student films and not directing some terrible mainstream TV show -- check those candy colors and crazy dissolves!
