It was a Bronx celebration last night as the Yankees handed it to the Tigers and Fat Joe unveiled his new album, Me, Myself and I, to a small group of listeners in NYC. Draped up in a purple polo and some purple Air Max 95s, Fat Joe called for this listening session to spread the word "that Fat Joe is rhyming over hard beats." And that he is. While Joe's previous album All or Nothing flopped, all is not forgotten, as Just Blaze's contribution "Safe 2 Say (Incredible)," is the blueprint for the new album. Heavy-metal guitar riffs and booming base is the recipe for Me, Myself and I. Largely produced by a consortium of Miami producers -- Scott Storch, Street Runners and DJ Khalid -- the album seems to be grounded more in the streets than appeasing the suburban segment. Guest appearances are limited on this effort, with only the Game and Lil Wayne assisting with choruses and verses. Highlights include "Pandemic," "The Profit," "Breathe and Stop" and "Make It Rain." More Don Cartagena than Flow Joe, the lasting question in my mind is, Did the beef with 50 or the previous brick All or Nothing motivate Fat Joe to come with it. Only November 14 will tell.
