Last month, the hip-hop and greater music communities mourned the death of rapper Micheal "Eyedea" Larsen. In a depressing piece of punctuation to an already sad story, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the 28-year-old died of a drug overdose, citing a Ramsey County medical examiner's report that declared "opiate toxicity" as the cause of death. The report did not reveal what specific drugs were actually in Larsen's system at the time of his passing. The day after his death, Larsen's mother said that she was not aware of her son having any sort of addictions.
On Oct. 28, over 2,000 people turned out for a public service for the fallen MC. On Nov. 9 (which would have been Larsen's 29th birthday), a sold-out tribute show was held at Minneapolis' First Avenue venue, which included performances from Aesop Rock, Atmosphere's Slug, Doseone, Kimya Dawson, and Larsen's frequent recording partner DJ Abilities.
