On the band’s first record, the Evangelicals were drawing innumerable comparisons to the likes of early Flaming Lips – but with their first single off of the upcoming The Evening Descends, “Skeleton Man,” they seem to leave their Oklahoma counterparts behind and develop a trail for their own path. The reverb-droning shoegaze indulging guitars and eerie background howling the songs progression moves in a much tighter, developed direction than anything off of their 2006 debut, So Gone. Singer/songwriter Josh Jones is making his way towards living within the world next to the likes of Dan Bejar and Panda Bear rather than sitting in the shadow of his elders – the most essential step the band needed to take heading into their sophomore release. Look out for The Evening Descends to drop on January 22nd via Dead Oceans.
