That other frenetic psych-rock band from Oklahoma, Evangelicals, will release its sophomore album, The Evening Descends, next Tuesday (January 22). The album's home is on the band's new home, newish Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar offshoot Dead Oceans. The record is also currently streaming in its entirety on Evangelicals' MySpace. "Streaming" is a great descriptor for The Evening Descends, as the album shoots off in myriad messy directions on songs like "Party Crashin'" and "Hello Jenn I'm a Mess."

Damn dude, the Starlight Mints album THE DREAMS THAT STUFF IS MADE OF was one of those weird finds for me. Y'know when you just buy an album knowing nothing about it and then you get hooked on it? Then weirdly, I never checked out any of their subsequent albums, even though I think that one is so good. |

I know what you're saying - the band's music has some weird pull that makes you not care so much about the band itself, like you could content yerself with what you've heard and be happy if they never put out anything else. Although I did end up getting the next couple Starlight Mints albums, and Built on Squares has some great moments. |

I had not heard of the Evangelicals until they were a featured artist on Myspace Canada. I jumped on over to their myspace site just before the streaming ended. Unbelievable stuff. I will definitely buy it when it comes out. I also see from prefix that they're going to be in LA in March. I'll be there. |
