It’s been a hard year for any fan of Big Star, but there is some better news looming on the horizon. A tribute show to the band’s late singer, Alex Chilton, is being planned in New York City, with Yo La Tengo and Lemonheads singer Evan Dando scheduled to take part.
The concert is set to take place this Wednesday (July 28) at City Winery, and will also feature appearances from Chilton’s former tourmate Jon Spencer, Marshall Crenshaw, and members of the Box Tops and Big Star (the latter will presumably be Jody Stephens, unless we’re counting the members of the Posies who helped flesh out the latter day lineup of the group).
Part of the proceeds will go to the Gulf Restoration Network, which is helping those affected by the BP oil spill. Tickets are a reasonable $28, and can be purchased from this link.
