While she records whatever will surface as the follow-up to last year's wonderful New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), Erykah Badu is keeping busy with some side gigs. We already knew she was collaborating with Flying Lotus, but it turns out she's working with the Gorillaz, too. She spilled the beans in an interview with Wall Street Journal, which also features a lengthy discussion on her feelings performing her debut, Baduizm, in its entirety for hip-hop festival Rock The Bells.
You can read the portion of the story featuring her discussion of the Gorillaz project below. Or you can head to the WSJ's website and read the entire article. And yes, I am trying to hold in my excitement over this news.
“I’m making an album right now with a guy named Flying Lotus. I’m working on a project with The Gorillaz. I’m always doing something. It doesn’t always make headlines, but I’m always making art – always. I deliver babies. That’s what I do – that’s the art that I’m focusing on right now for the most part. I’m a midwife.”
