Epic Length Jack Rose Tribute Compilation 'Honest Strings' Released
After a few weeks delay to work out some technical issues, the massive Jack Rose tribute compilation entitled Honest Strings: A Tribute to the Life and Work of Jack Rose is available for download right here, right now. The compilation is a digital only release assembled with the help of Three Lobed Records and features six and a half hours of material (no, that's not a typo). Participants include: Bardo Pond, MV & EE, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Six Organs of Admittance, Hush Arbors, Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, No Neck Blues Band, Spectre Folk (Pete Nolan of Magik Markers), Zaika with Loren Connors, Jack's bluegrass backing group The Black Twig Pickers and 30 others (not a typo, either).
In addition to its epic roster of participants and staggering length, the compilation is a measly $15.00 and 100% of the purchase price will be donated to Rose's estate. This is the no-brainer purchase of the year for fans of Rose and underground music in general. Get over to the FINA site and download it now. Rose died tragically and suddenly of a heart attack last year at the far too young age of 38. This year, Thrill Jockey released his superb posthumous album Luck In The Valley.

I can't wait to pick this up. Rose is one of my favorite artists, and his passing was a big loss. Go get Luck in the Valley, if you don't already have it, people. It's my favorite record this year -- along with that Roky Erickson record.
The little of this I've had the chance to listen to has been excellent. Obviously it will take a very long time to digest the whole thing. Luck in the Valley is really amazing.
