eMusic Adding 250,000 Songs, New Pricing Structure

eMusic’s so far ill-fated battle against iTunes in the digital music store battles has just gotten slightly less Quixotic: Universal Records has decided to release a bunch of music to the service, adding 250,000 songs to eMusic’s catalog. Like at iTunes, the labels have decided that their songs are worth more than the $0.49 songs on eMusic, so the company has had to change its pricing to $0.89 for songs that would sell for $1.29 on iTunes. That’s still considerably less, but I can’t see this mattering a whole lot in terms of iTunes’ market share. [DS]
