Eminem: “I’ll vote for Barack"

After a lengthy period away from the spotlight, Eminem is set to return with his new Dr. Dre-produced album Relapse. “For probably the past five months pretty much straight I've been working with Dre,” he announced earlier this month, before dropping the first taster for the album in the form of “I’m Having a Relapse.”

But now Eminem has turned his attention to the forthcoming presidential election, announcing: “I’ll vote for Barack." Speaking with characteristic frankness to DJ Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, he said: “I know we are going into a recession. Pardon the cliché but we need something to change. I think Barack would be a breath of fresh air, to get in there and actually get what's left of the Bush administration out the door."

An official release date for Relapse hasn’t yet been set, but it’s thought that it could come out before the end of the year.

I hope these people do back their words with action by voting in Barack Obama. Republicans are failing us especially when they have no comprehensive clues as to how they're gonna fix the economy.

way to stay relevant em, emmie, emigail mcemington!

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

I hope this idiot does not vote. The change he is supporting is higher taxes, bigger gov't, and universal health care. These proposals will not bring us out of a recession, but devaluate the dollar and increase inefficiency on the tax payers dime. It is basic economics, taxing the wealthy and corporations reduces job opportunities and disposable income. Do not vote for Obama just b/c you don't like Bush. Understand both sides, not just the media biased stories.

Unfortunately, Democrats who make up most (51%) of registered voters have had much less voter turnout than the Republicans (38%).
Democrats either need to make an effort or we will have to wait another 4 years for the more of the cranky, crusty, racist, elderly base (in the South) of the Republican party to die off.

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

I forgot M&M is an expert on the political scene. Sam Issac Essel claims the GOP has no idea how to fix the economy.

Does Barack? He has offered nothing in terms of a coherent plan. He says he will cut taxes for 95% of Americans. How is that possible when 33% of all working age Americans pay no taxes whatsoever? What Obama actually does is count certain welfare payments as tax cuts. This is out right deception.

It is too bad Obama supporters have willingly followed him like lemmings off a cliff. They are no different than those who followed Hitler. They are blind followers who are blind to the truth.

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

it is time to pick one of the less evils...whats really going to change? can anyone really say there has been a pres in the last 20 years that really really changed things all by himself? dont get me wrong, i like Barack, but can he really change all that he is promising? i hope so..

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

Yet another worthless endorsement by yet another worthless celebrity. These people are no better than politicians, they don't care about you and me. They get off with slaps on the wrist for crimes the little people like us go to jail for just because they are famous. They have the money to afford to say whatever they like and "support" the cause of the week while the rest of us barely make ends meet. You don't see people like Eminem losing their homes due to the recession.

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

republican = Nazi in my book

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

Yeah, Barack nor Mcstain will do much to fix anything, change is just a buzz word to get people excited that Bush is no longer going to be in office.

What are they going to change? Troops will still be put out in other countries, spending will still run a muck in Washington, and the government will work harder to take American liberties away from honest hard working people.

Wake up America, Your government is selling you out and taking a dump on the Constitution.

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

Another reason Not to vote for NoBama. Google "The Creature from Jekyll Island" and find out why we are in a recession. and then ask yourself Why did Barack vote to bailout into law and not stick up for us.. Change my @$$ Just keep spending until there is no middle class. Socialisim is not the way that we need to go. Neither of them deserve my vote.

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

Obama is the only sensible option. McBush is a proven LIAR whose word means nothing.

Any chance we can get more wackos to speak for obama? Maybe the prisoners on death row?

Will get McCain in office for sure

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

aww crap

October 21, 2008 at 1:33 p.m.

And the Democratic majority ruled House and Senate are doing so much! The haven't really don't anything. SO yes if Obama is elected we will see change - but are you sure it is the change you want and change that will help make a difference. Dig deeper, question the responses, get involved and make sure

@John re "universal health care"

I've worked in Health Care my entire adult life and it amazes me how ignorant people are to what is going on. You do realize that it is illegal for a hospital to turn someone away from the Emergency Room right? So what we have now is people without Health Care doing zero preventative medicine and then showing up at the ER when something goes wrong. This is hugely expensive and is reimbursed by the government. Now, in case you didn't catch that let me be clear, you are already paying for Universal Health Care, you are just doing it in a really, really stupid and expensive way!

Providing people with preventive medicine, prenatal care, and giving them somewhere other than the Emergency Room to go when they get the flu will save all of us money and lead to a healthier society.

Oh, and while on the subject Barack is offering lower taxes than McCain on 95% of the population and no President since FDR has grown government as much as Bush (not to mention illegally). The days of the Republicans (I used to be one until this year) standing on high ground and preaching about small government and lower taxes are over, it's all a lie.

October 21, 2008 at 2:22 p.m.

I know a couple of wackos who support obama, I got a whole list infact.....oh wait these are all Nobel prize winners (oopsie)

October 21, 2008 at 2:22 p.m.

Oh sh*t somebody find out who Iced Tea is voting for next. If Iced Tea confirms Obama then my vote is spoken for ..... Who gives a flying f*uck who M and M (or Iced Tea) is voting for. These people don't matter ..... ever.

October 21, 2008 at 2:28 p.m.

Okay, that's relevant.

7-point lead in the Gallup poll = Scoreboard.

Eminem isn't campaigning for Obama. Get over that popular culture, whether right or wrong will always have their opinions expressed to a larger audience than you, or any of us on this message board ever will.

October 21, 2008 at 3:41 p.m.

"Simple" Sarah is, in a word, fail.

October 21, 2008 at 3:47 p.m.

LOL

October 21, 2008 at 3:47 p.m.

I'd rather give them no preventative care and let most of the weak go 6 ft. under. We need more Darwin, not bigger lines at the hospital and doctor. Big party politics are ruining America.

October 21, 2008 at 4:29 p.m.

What Republicans fail to remember is that, the three biggest spenders in Presidential history are Regan, Nixon and Bush and they claim to be fiscally conservative.

October 21, 2008 at 4:29 p.m.

Logically, why the hell would anyone who makes less than 150k/yr with net asset less than 2million vote for McCain? Why speak in favor of the rich when you are not rich yet?

If you have money to blow, like M&M, then you would save a lot more under McCain provided that you actually pay taxes rather than going through the usual route of offshore accounts. But then, the few people I know who do make in the mid to high 6 figures they are mostly liberals.

October 21, 2008 at 6:08 p.m.

Man some of you are truly idiots.

"Eminem is not a political expert."

You clearly are missing the point. He's using the hype behind the election to help promote his album. This is all publicity and the more you talk about how he is not a political expert, the more it promotes his album.

Won't you ever get it?

October 21, 2008 at 6:08 p.m.

Why not vote for a third party candidate and get this 2 party failed system out the door. Lets return to the basics of how this country was built. Lets get the federal reserve out of our back pocket. We are in a downward spiral headed towards socialism with either Rep or Dem. I bet most of the people reading this column don't even know there are other candidates to chose from. Vote your conscious not the lesser of two evils. Voting Democrat or Republican is like a Chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.
CHUCK BALDWIN for President!

AHAH, you just cant believe how stupid "the internet" is and then you point us to a website. Way to go, troll...

Btw, i will not visit that website.

October 22, 2008 at 2:18 a.m.

Thank God. I had no idea who I was going to vote for. Now that a serious, well educated, responsible citizen like Eminem, with his vast experience in world affairs and finance has explained in depth who and why I should vote for, I can breathe a lot easier.

Of course, it won't be freer. More taxes, no change in the world economic situation, more welfare - that's what Democrats will give you.

But then, the welfare folks - them's Eminem's peeps. With a bigger welfare check, maybe they can buy more of his shiatty music.

October 22, 2008 at 2:18 a.m.

I say, Eniminem is a smart man.

October 22, 2008 at 2:18 a.m.

Why would anyone vote for a man who hasn't even issued a birth certificate to even be in the senate? We have no idea where Obama is really from and you want to vote this man as our president?
Shame on all of you. If he wins, then we all get what we deserve. He will leads us to disaster.

October 22, 2008 at 2:18 a.m.

Obama = New World Order puppet.
Vote Baldwin.

October 22, 2008 at 2:19 a.m.

Obama is the only logial pick. All this crap about terrorism, taxes and socialism is just desperate fear tacticts from a backward Repiblican party. If you believe Obama is a terrorist then surely (hopefully) you're too stupid to be able to vote.

October 22, 2008 at 2:19 a.m.

McCain & Palin - Unstable & Unable.

Obama FTW!

October 22, 2008 at 2:19 a.m.

did this dude really just compare people willing to to vote for a brave candidate for like Barack Obama to those who followed out Hitler's orders to execute MILLIONS of innocent people?

that just happened right?

plz for the love of god don't let your own ignorance and intolerance continue on by having kids. you're too dumb to breed.

October 22, 2008 at 2:19 a.m.

crack is whack

October 22, 2008 at 11:49 a.m.

Been saying it for months...No, I don't think he's the "messiah" or the second coming of jesus, but he is head and shoulders above Mccain...It does not surprise me that Em supports him as I'd imagine most of the hip-hop industry does. On a different note, there's a lot of stupid people in this world..If your arguments against Obama are that he's a "terrorist" (or pals with one) or that he's muslim you have problems....Mccain himself knows neither is true but he just wants that presidency so bad he's willing to divide and spread hatred to his followers...

All I gotta say is if you can't stand the thought of a (half) African-American man being in control of the country, GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!

Isn't Eminem a convicted felon? How's he voting?

October 24, 2008 at 1:36 a.m.

His name is Eminem not M&M. Mc Old Man Cain is no different than Bush; therefore don't vote for him. VOTE FOR CHANGE. Vote Obama.

October 28, 2008 at 11:48 a.m.

god damn for such a smart dude why is he making such a stupid decision to vote for obama, regardless, his music is the best of all time so you can't judge a person based on their views and beliefs just on their ability.

October 30, 2008 at 10:42 a.m.

First off I'd like to say that Eminem is good at what he does. The man gives me chillbumps not only looking at him, but listening to his music. Anyway as far as all you haters agains Obama and the ones that are not for McBush what it boils down to is after this election whoever gets in we need to get behind them because this country is in the worst shape since the Great Depression of 1929 which involved just the United States, but now it's the whole world. This is the time that terrorists will attack when we are at the lowest. I believe in the times we are living it will get worse before it gets better. Whatever happens here on out we need to live life the best way we know how and pray about it, because there's only so much the Lord will let happen before he will intervene. We are living in the end of times.

But if you think the way you all are thinking nothing will change and once agian we will fail as a county ..

OBAMA (08) BITCHS !!!!!

November 26, 2008 at 6:26 p.m.

Who ever says that Barak Obama is not going to take us out of the recession is an idiot. You must make over 200,000 a year because those are the only people who's taxes are going up and cry about it to someone else because the fact that you may not be able to buy a flat screen while he is in presidency does not bother me.
