EMI continues restructuring by shedding record label presidents

In his continuing Quixote-like quest to bring EMI to profitability, Guy Hands has now decided to do away with the position of record label president at imprints under the EMI umbrella. As Terra Firma, a corporate entity second only to the Hanso Foundation with regard to opaqueness, does not believe in the position, Columbia Records head man Lee Trink’s last day on the job will be June 30. His resignation will most likely be followed in short order by that of Jason Flom, the head of Virgin Records. Hands has not offered any plan for how the labels will be organized after the departures, but the label’s artists will doubtless be watching. His implementation of Terra Firma policies have thus far led to the defection of Radiohead from the label and strongly voiced concerns from top-tier artists such as Robbie Williams, Coldplay, and the Verve.
