Editor Writes to Morrissey in Attempt to Publish Memoirs

Plenty of books have already been written about Morrissey, including this notorious tome from Johnny Rogan. Now, an editor at Faber is trying to persuade the singer to bring his autobiography to the publishing giant by writing an open letter to him. Morrissey said in 2008 that he would be writing a memoir in an attempt to correct perceived notions about him.

The letter from Faber editorial director Lee Brackstone has been published on the Faber blog. “I can only fantasise that at least you might read my letter through and consider the pleasures and prestige of being an author at Faber, the last great family-owned independent publishing house in the western hemisphere,” he writes.

Naturally, big money is on the table for the singer’s autobiography, and Blackstone is convinced that the singer is “well away” with the writing of the book. The editor has described the letter as “a bit of fun,” and admits there is “a risk that it may just irritate him,” but clearly Faber is aware of the lucrative lure of such a book, should it ever surface.
