Ed O'Brien Talks About New Radiohead Album

Radiohead played a show in Mexico City last night (March 15), beginning a spate of touring and recording that may culminate in the release of a new album before the end of the year. The Mexico City show didn’t feature any new material, but guitarist Ed O’Brien has already confirmed the band is working on a followup to In Rainbows: “We are working on new material,” he said last week. “We’ll be doing some more recording. It’s business as usual."

O’Brien has also been talking to BBC 6Music about the band’s current plans, which may include another innovative way of releasing their music to the world. “We’ve got a few,” he said, when asked if they had any ideas on how to release the yet to be completed album. “The thing is with us, and as was the case with In Rainbows, make the music first, see what the landscape is. In a year’s time it could be very different.”

Radiohead is expected to tour again this summer, which would conclude the promotional duties for In Rainbows. It’s possible that a follow-up to that record may not even fall into the traditional album format, with O’Brien saying: “We might want to release two tracks only so we’ll just have to see. Once we’ve made the music, see what happens and decide then.” The band is about to follow its Mexico City shows with dates in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. [Gigwise]

Funny how after all the press yapping in recent years you almost forget that there's anyone in Radiohead except Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood, and Johnny Greenwood's brother.

Hah, that's a pretty acute observation.
