Earth Announce New Album

For a drone metal band, Seattle's Earth have covered an impressive amount of aesthetic ground. Their first full length, Earth 2 (1993), offers a disorienting and dense assault of glacial chords, and 2008's The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull is a bluesy, Morricone-inspired monstrosity. Their latest, Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1, due out in February via Southern Lord, promises to draw inspiration from even farther-flung wellsprings; the press release hints at influences eclectic as Fairport Convention and Tinariwen.

The record will find Earth main man Dylan Carlson joined by percussionist Adrienne Davies, as well as former Nirvana cellist Lori Goldston, and bassist Karl Blau, who has played with Microphones and Laura Veirs. Stuart Hallerman, who also worked on Earth 2, will produce. Here's the track list:

1. Old Black

2. Father Midnight

3. Descent To The Zenith

4. Hell's Winter

5. Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1

A re-release of Earth's earliest recordings, A Bureaucratic Desire For Extra-Capsular Extraction, is out now on Southern Lord.
