In 1982, Duran Duran hadn't quite taken over the world yet and become bothersome in their ubiquity, nor had they descended to the kind of obnoxious overkill-pop that gave the '80s a bad name ("Wild Boys," "Notorious"). Their second album, Rio, was a sleek, classy hit machine full of sophisticated songcraft, winning melodies, and just the right amount of post-Bowie, New Romantic, synth-tinged glamour. October 27 is the date that's been set to inform the world about the inside story of its making, when Eagle Rock Entertainment releases the Classic Albums: Rio DVD. No word yet on whether it includes bonus blooper footage of the boys' misadventures in fashion accessorizing.
