The long-rumored news is true: Duff McKagan is officially the fourth member and bassist of Jane’s Addiction, who are currently in the studio working on a new album. The news was reported by Dave Navarro on his Twitter, as he posted a picture of the band playing with McKagan on bass.
This is the umpteenth lineup change for Jane’s Addiction since their formation in the late ’80s. Original bassist Eric Avery quit the band in the early ’90s to be replaced briefly by Flea, to be replaced by session bassists. Then Avery joined the band again last year for their reunion tour, but quit again recently due to friction with the other members. This opened the door for McKagan, who himself has dealt with the breakup of Guns N Roses and his recent project, Velvet Revolver.
This new version of Jane’s Addiction is working on new music for a new album they plan for release next year. [Spinner]
