Yesterday, it was confirmed that a new Drake song would be dropping in conjunction with the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring-Summer 2018 Fashion Show. Live from the Palais Royal in Paris, France, “Signs,” the first piece of music from Drizzy since More Life, has arrived. Noah “40” Shebib — Drake’s longtime producer and collaborator — produced the glowing track.
Listen via the video below; the song starts around the 03:30-minute mark.
Opening with reverb-drenched percussive chords, a pulsing, four-on-the-floor bass drum pounds forward with shuffling rim shots. The drumbeat sounds very familiar to the beat on Drake’s viral hit, “One Dance.” However, if the “One Dance” beat was meant for dancing in the club, “Signs” was made for a pair of headphones at home. “Lord, forgive me, I can’t take things slowly / I’m goin’ on them once I get going / Just tryna take it all off for me / Tryna stay real close to me,” sings Drake with a soft, melodramatic delivery. Instrumentally, the song sounds like it could be off of Take Care, but the production is more post-VIEWS Drake. Animating the song’s title, he raps, “And it feels like you’re mine / Signs of the times / Oh, what a time.”
Earlier this year, Drake released not an album; not a mixtape; but a playlist, entitled More Life. It boasted twenty-two tracks, with features from rap legends like Kanye West and 2 Chainz, as well as new-comers like Quavo, Young Thug, and Travis Scott. He also explored his affinity for UK hip-hop with collaborative tracks featuring Skepta and Giggs. More Life came less than a year after VIEWS — so, “Signs” may be a part of a new project from Drizzy. And as per usual, the Six God has also been delivering features and guest verses left and right, most recently on DJ Khaled’s “To the Max” from the upcoming album, Grateful. Revisit More Life below.
