While Drake's music is relatively mellow, the Toronto singer/rapper is relatively unmodest, so it seems. Speaking to The Jewish Chronicle--Drake is, after all, half-Jewish via his mother--he let go this bon mot: "There were people who incorporated melody before me, but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing."
Surely, others will take offense at this. What about Lauryn Hill, or the rapping/pseudo-singing of Kanye? Missy Elliott also comes to mind, though we'll grant Drake this: nobody's ever been as much of a downer when he/she sings. I mean, just look at the Take Care artwork. He's just so, so sad that he bears this mantle. [Hypetrak]
