Toronto’s Very Own, Drake, had a busy weekend in his hometown. It started off on Saturday night, when Drizzy hosted “Drake Night” at the Air Canada Centre, where the Toronto Raptors beat the Brooklyn Nets. Drake is the Global Ambassador of the Raptors, and fans were given a free OVO x Toronto Raptors T-Shirt, now being sold on eBay for over $100, treated to player introduction’s by the rapper, and a halftime performance by Future The Prince. “It’s really about my city” the rapper explained.
Throughout the television broadcast, the announcers of the game talked about the influence that Drake could have on bringing elite players to the Canadian market, and while they both said it was possible, it only took a day for that point to be proven. At a press conference this morning, where Toronto soccer team, the Toronto FC, announced the signing of Jermain Defoe, the President and CEO personally thanked Drake for his help in bringing the star to North America.
Apparently Drake made several calls to the striker, and they have become good friends. “I don’t think Jermain’s joining the band and I’m fairly certain Drake’s not joining the team but they’ve forged a good friendship,” said CEO Tim Leiweke. The rapper couldn’t be at the press conference in the morning as he is preparing to host Saturday Night Live on January 18.
