Dr. Dre’s Detox had been rumored as a late 2008 album, but apparently the album isn’t near being finished, as Dre delayed his work on the album to do production work on Eminem’s Relapse.
According to Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine, Dre will be returning to the studio in January to put the finishing touches on Detox, and both Detox and Relapse will be hitting shelves in the latter part of 2009. Iovine says that he had tried to get Dre to wrap up work on the album to get it out in 2008, but Eminem “hit a streak” and needed Dre’s full attention, so Dre dropped his work to help Eminem.
Now that Chinese Democracy and Q-Tip’s The Renaissance are out, Dre’s Detox is the new great mythical album, as Dre has promised release dates for the set for four years, and his last album (2001) came out in 1999. Only time will tell if Detox will actually come out next year, or if Dre will need another few years to figure it out. [Gigwise]
