Download Smashing Pumpkins' Hyundai song for free

The debate is still raging over whether or not Billy Corgan is a sell-out for licensing a new song ("FOL") for a Hyundai Super Bowl ad, but you can forgo any of that and just download the track (sans-Hyundai propaganda), for free at Hyundai's website. Wait, I guess it's not free of Hyundai propaganda. [via Stereogum

Selling out is fundamentally changing your art or working contrary to your ideals for power or money (see the Goo Goo Dolls or Sugar Ray). This song is right in line with anything else SP has ever done.

Is it 1997? Random reference points.

Billy Corgan is not a sell out, He is one who truly cares about his music, and doesn't write songs, he writes art. Where ever he decides to display is art is completely up to him. A sell out would be. Korn, where are they now? other examples would be Bad Religion, Nine Inch Nails. It's all about radio play and money now. I have to admit that SP does not sound the same as it used to in the 90's, but how long can you go with the same genre of music, I have to agree with Billy that "Rock and Roll over and over is getting boring" and Having an arena full of people that just want to hear Bullet with Butterfly Wings, or 1979 or Today or Zero, which is one of my favorites for the music, not for the success the song has, is really annoying. Of course, those songs are the most known from the Smashing Pumpkins. But bottom line is, People should learn what a sell out is before calling a True Artist a sell out.

P.S. Great drum work on G.L.O.W.

Had they thrown Bullet With Butterfly Wings or 1979 over generic clips of that generic car speeding around a track it would have been selling out. But SP used the Superbowl commercial to get a completely new song out, kind of a no-brainer to team up with Hyundai and get the massive exposure, display the song in their own way (Billy edited the commercial and he and Jimmy made the music). And on top of all that, Hyundai covers the bill while fans get to download the song for free. They are not selling out, they are doing something new and innovative without being weighed down by a music label. I think it is great, refreshing, and can't wait for what they do next.

How have NIN sold out? Trent has given out his last album for FREE! Not to mention his outrage for using his music for purposes he doesn't agree with (eg Fox News). The integrity of the music and respect for the fans have always been the most important thing for him. As for Billy, as much of a song writing genius that he is,has always been a sell-out. Zeitgeist was simply an attempt to revitalize his career by using Green Days' American Idiot approach, with Siamese Dream-like music. A huge failure. I can't understand why Billy continues to destroy the legacy of the Smashing Pumpkins. Putting a new song on a Hyundai commercial is something a true rock artist would never dream of.

yeah, but "trent" is pretty much commercial now. i hate all the new NIN music, I used to be a big NIN fan back in the day. I would have to say the last real NIN song was Starfu**ers.
