With his free Intro to the Outro mixtape, Exile continues to pave his own lane in the realm of hip-hop while simultaneously pushing boundaries of the genre. On it’s face, it’s your typical precursor-style project as it stands as a holdover of sorts before he drops 4TRK MIND in October. But when you actually hear the mixtape, you’ll realize that Intro to the Outro is anything but typical.
And there’s a good reason for that: Exile is one of the best producers of our time. That remains true whether he’s sampling Tom Waits for Blu, churning out West Coast bangers for Co$$ and Bun B, or embracing his trademark chopping style for Pharoahe Monch and Fashawn. Yeah, all those rappers I just referenced are on the mixtape along with MF DOOM, Mobb Deep, and many others. You also get a glimpse of 4TRK MIND, which is Exile’s first album to feature him rapping for the entirety of the release.
