Manchester's Doves have finished work on their first album in four years, Kingdom of Rust, and announced that it will be released in the US on April 7.
As a taster for the follow-up to 2005's Some Cities, the band has made album opener, "Jetstream," available for download from the Doves website, where they describe the track as "an imaginary song for the closing credits on Ridley Scott's classic [Blade Runner]".
Doves' frontman, Jimi Goodwin, told Billboard.com that "Jetstream" is a "nod to our electronic past." The nod is, however, quite discreet and doesn't exactly take Doves back to their Sub Sub roots. Fans looking forward to Goodwin's hoarse vocals might be a tad disappointed, as "Jetstream" is sung by bassist Jez Williams. Goodwin assures fans that there is no dramatic departure in store come April though, "Everyone talks about fucking departures, but this album is hopefully just Doves doing what they do really well -- which is nicely crafted songs."

best news i've heard in a while
I forgot all about these guys.
their first album is still their best...a hidden gem. but man you gotta love "pounding"
I agree...bands that strive for a 'departure' from what they do best are conflicted. Better to stick to your knitting than to prove out some sort of nuanced change in direction. 'Jetstream' and (especially) 'Kingdom of Rust' are just gorgeous songs...coming at me on two different boulevards but arriving right in front of me with amazing clarity, joy, and quality. I love both songs and can't wait to see Doves when (if?) they come to Boston.
